If you want to freshen up your kitchen but the idea of a full renovation is unrealistic, a new splashback is just what you need. A well-chosen splashback can completely change how your kitchen looks and feels, all without structural changes. We’re sharing our favourite kitchen splashbacks to brighten up your space and make it look and feel bigger!
If you hadn’t already guessed, mirror splashbacks are number one our list. They’re one of the easiest and most effective ways to open up smaller kitchens without a full layout change. Mirror splashbacks bounce light around the room, helping brighten dark corners and spaces that don’t get much natural light. They also help create the illusion of more space by reflecting nearby surfaces and the surrounding room.
Mirror splashbacks are made from toughened safety glass, so they can withstand high temperatures and regular use in the kitchen and around stovetop areas. The smooth and non-porous glass surface is also resistant to mould, stains and grime, meaning just one wipe over and it’s good as new!
Our mirrored splashbacks are available in a variety of finishes, so you can achieve the perfect look for your home. Classic silver mirrors are brighter and more reflective, while tinted mirrors are softer and come in more colours such as grey, bronze and black. In this Mullaloo kitchen, our Low-E Reflective Dark Mirror splashback was the perfect choice, it works really well with the high gloss white cabinets and brightens up the entire space.
Matching your splashback to your benchtop is another great way to get the most out of smaller spaces. Matching surfaces work to create one continuous surface that gives the illusion of a deeper benchtop, therefore looks as if there’s more space. The classic combination of a white benchtop and splashback is most effective, but any colour can work. White splashbacks are incredibly versatile because they can be made with so many different materials and they suit almost any kitchen style!
Painted glass splashbacks can be customised in any colour you like. This custom glass splashback was created with Dulux Whisper White to perfectly match the surrounding kitchen and benchtops. The glass surface also helps to reflect natural light around the room, while still being durable and providing protection from heat, stains and scratches.
Windows in kitchens function a similar way to how a mirror splashbacks work, by helping draw natural light in and creating the illusion of more space. Narrow or tucked away kitchens can really benefit from the addition of windows, particularly kitchens with stone splashbacks. Since stone isn’t as reflective as glass, it benefits from the extra natural light to brighten the space.
Ceramic, porcelain and sintered stone are often used for benchtops too, so you can get a truly seamless finish to open up your space. At DGW, we use high quality materials from suppliers that are trusted for their durability, including Laminam, Dekton and Bella. In this recent Perth project, we installed a Bella porcelain splashback in Bianco Polished, creating a bright and spacious feel for this galley style kitchen.
Just like glass splashbacks, stone alternative materials are also extremely resistant to heat, stain and scratches, you can read more about why we love them here!
If you want a more spacious kitchen but can’t commit to a full renovation, a new splashback is a great option.
